The morning of 30 January 2026 marked more than just the beginning of a competition—it marked the birth of a legacy. Shah Cement Presents CELENCIA: Season 01 unfolded as one of the largest national civil engineering festivals in Bangladesh, organized collaboratively by ASCE Student Chapter, BUET and ACI BUET Student Chapter, transforming the BUET campus into a dynamic hub of ideas, creativity, and youthful ambition.
With participation from over 1,000 future engineers representing 30+ universities across the country, CELENCIA emerged as a vibrant platform where knowledge met practice, competition met collaboration, and passion met purpose. From the very first registration desk to the final applause at the prize giving ceremony, the day resonated with energy, color, and aspiration.
Inauguration & Opening Moments
The day began with participant registration followed by a formal inauguration ceremony at the Central Auditorium. Distinguished faculty members including Professor Dr. Ishtiaque Ahmed, Head of the Department, Department of Civil Engineering, BUET; Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Jalil, Dean, Department of Civil Engineering, BUET; Professor Dr. Nazrul Islam, PhD, PE, Faculty Advisor, ASCE Student Chapter, BUET and Associate Professor Dr. Rupak Mutsuddy, Faculty Advisor, ACI BUET Student Chapter along with the representatives from partner organizations and sponsors including Shah Cement, CSRM and Fairmate came together to formally commence the festival. The inauguration set the tone for a day filled with intellectual rigor, creative exploration, and healthy competition.
House of Trusses: Engineering Strength in Action
One of the most engaging attractions of the day was the House of Trusses, where teams demonstrated structural efficiency through carefully designed truss models. The segment began with truss collection and inspection, followed by loading and strength checks that tested both design philosophy and construction precision. Later in the day, teams faced the viva session, where their technical understanding and design decisions were evaluated by judges. The exhibition drew continuous attention from participants and spectators alike.
Mechanics Mayhem: When Theory Meets Motion
Mechanics Mayhem challenged participants to apply fundamental mechanical principles under time pressure. Conducted in a competitive academic environment, this segment tested analytical thinking, speed, and conceptual clarity, making it one of the most intellectually stimulating events of the festival.
Poster Paradox: Research Meets Presentation
The Poster Paradox segment provided a platform for participants to showcase research ideas, innovations, and analytical insights through visually compelling posters. Mounted and displayed throughout the venue, the posters encouraged academic discussion and peer engagement while allowing participants to communicate complex ideas in a concise and impactful manner.
Draft It!: Precision in Design
In Draft It!, individual participants demonstrated their drafting and design skills using CAD tools. Accuracy, efficiency, and clarity were key judging criteria. This segment highlighted the importance of technical precision in modern civil engineering practice.
Paper Tower Challenge: Creativity Under Constraints
The Paper Tower Challenge stood out for its blend of creativity and structural logic. Teams constructed towers using limited materials, competing across construction, loading, and viva phases. The challenge emphasized innovation, teamwork, and problem-solving under constraints, making it one of the most engaging segments of the day.
Brainy Blitz: Speed, Knowledge, and Nerves
Brainy Blitz tested participants’ core civil engineering knowledge through preliminary and stage rounds. The rapid-fire format demanded not only technical knowledge but also composure and quick decision-making, keeping both participants and audience fully engaged.
Eco-Concrete: Engineering for Sustainability
The Eco-Concrete segment focused on sustainable construction practices and material innovation. Participants explored environmentally responsible approaches, reflecting the growing importance of sustainability in the future of civil engineering.
Job Fair: Bridging Academia and Industry
Alongside the competitions, CELENCIA featured a Job Fair, creating a valuable interface between students and industry. Leading organizations including Confidence Group, Crown Cement, Navana Group, CSRM, and BSRM interacted with participants, offering career guidance, networking opportunities, and industry insights—making the festival not just competitive, but career-oriented.
Prize Giving & Closing Ceremony
As the sun set, the festival concluded with a grand Prize Giving and Closing Ceremony at the Central Auditorium. The ceremony was attended by Professor Dr. Ishtiaque Ahmed, Head of the Department, Department of Civil Engineering, BUET; Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Jalil, Dean, Department of Civil Engineering, BUET; Professor Dr. Nazrul Islam, PhD, PE, Faculty Advisor, ASCE Student Chapter, BUET and Associate Professor Dr. Rupak Mutsuddy, Faculty Advisor, ACI BUET Student Chapter along with the representatives from partner organizations and sponsors including Shah Cement, CSRM and Fairmate. Applause, celebration, and pride filled the hall as winners were recognized for their excellence, dedication, and innovation.
