Arsenic Contamination of Groundwater and its Implications for Groundwater-irrigated Agriculture in Bangladesh: Lessons Learned 2000-2022

A webinar on “Arsenic Contamination of Groundwater” was held on December 1, 2022. The head presenter, Professor Dr. Muhammad Ashraf Ali, shared insights from research conducted between 2000 and 2022, focusing on the impact of arsenic on Bangladesh’s agriculture. The webinar covered the occurrence and distribution of arsenic in groundwater, the associated risks, its entry into the food chain, and potential mitigation measures. Professor Dr. Nazrul Islam, faculty advisor of the ASCE Student Chapter at BUET, also attended the webinar, offering his valuable perspectives. Over 50 students participated, gaining knowledge about BUET’s research on arsenic removal strategies and technologies to ensure the safety of agricultural soil.
